Rallying collective intelligence to co-create sustainable societal outcomes.

Nicholas Brooke

Executive Director

In a fragmented world facing global societal issues, we are dedicated to nurturing complex systems. We create the conditions for disconnected individuals, organizations, and initiatives to find common ground, rally collective intelligence and collaborate to systematically build systems that deliver sustainable societal outcomes.

Looking back on 2022 as a year of nurturing growth.

This year, we’ve continued nurturing a fresh approach that aims to address the challenges our society faces, and we're making great strides along this inspiring journey. The Synergist model is our way of tackling societal issues head-on, adding a new systemic dimension to the scattered landscape of societal activity. Just like a tree's roots interweave to provide stability, we're bringing together a diverse group of talented individuals, each with their unique skills and experiences. Together, we're tending to the different dimensions of these complex issues, ones that no lone individual or isolated effort can handle. We're sowing the seeds of change, working together to solve the problems that affect all of us, just like a thriving forest ecosystem where every part plays a vital role.

In this endeavor, the growth and flourishing of our society require the participation and unity of both individuals and organizations. Much like a forest thrives when all its inhabitants collaborate, we, too, need to harmonize our efforts. In 2022, we continued to build upon the firm foundations. With the devotion of a gardener, we're cultivating the well-intentioned and effective actions taken by a diverse community of stakeholders, organizations, and individuals. Together, we're uncovering best practices and weaving them together, creating a tapestry of change that benefits society as a whole.

Every supporter, expert, contributor, and our motivated in-house team has played an invaluable role in our collective mission. Picture a majestic tree, where each branch represents our partners and contributors, and together, we form a "think & do-tank." Hand in hand, we're addressing various societal challenges systematically and sustainably. Our collaborative network, much like the roots of a tree, intertwines and cooperates, making 2022 a year of remarkable progress.

And what have we achieved through this collective effort? One learns humility in helping bring to fruition the immense value of collective intelligence.

As we approach our 10th anniversary, we believe, more than ever, that the world’s most complex and societal issues are best solved when we address them collectively. A world where the conditions for disconnected individuals, organisations and initiatives find common ground, rally collective intelligence, and collaborate to systematically build systems that deliver sustainable societal outcomes.

2022 witnessed a surge of interest in personalized care, like a young tree growing tall and strong. From Testing to Targeted Treatments (FT3) swiftly emerged from its early stages, a testament to the strength of collaboration. Meanwhile, PFMD, now in its seventh year, continues to pave new paths in placing patients at the heart of shaping health systems and product development. The Motherhood Collective Impact Program (MCIP), the driving force behind Safe Motherhood Week, tirelessly strives to make maternal health a global priority, much like a tree's branches extending to embrace the sky.

At the core of the Synergist team's role lies the act of nurturing collective intelligence, fostering roots that delve deep to bear the fruits of solutions and impacts. It's not without its challenges, much like tending to a flourishing garden, but through the lens of shared ambition and meaningful collaboration, we're harnessing a sense of purpose and an entrepreneurial spirit that yield tangible outcomes. Just as trees need care and attention, building societal synergies requires consistent investment. Our efforts are not ephemeral; they happen daily. In 2022, the Patient Engagement Open Forum (PEOF) marked a significant milestone, gathering like-minded individuals to plant the seeds of inspiration for a better future. As we venture into 2023, the prospect of PEOF Japan and our collaboration with DIA showcases the immense potential as we embark on another year of growth. PEOF is but one branch of the intricate mechanism we're assembling to drive change.

The pursuit of systemic societal change might seem daunting, akin to nurturing a grand forest. Yet, our team believes we mustn't shy away from the challenge if we're to address societal issues with the care they deserve. The era of solely narrow thinking, isolated efforts, and confined projects is behind us. To drive progress in health, the environment, and society as a whole, we must work together, much like the various elements of a thriving ecosystem. It's a big task, occasionally daunting, but with every small step and shared effort, we pave the way for transformation.

Navigating complex landscapes demands intricate responses, much like the delicate care required for a delicate plant. It necessitates patience—listening, understanding deeply, embracing discomfort, and altering our path until the right solution emerges. This collaborative endeavor is a daily journey, akin to the continuous nurturing a garden requires.

A garden thrives with the right tools, environment, and dedicated spaces. A neutral incubator hosting collective action is key to effective societal impact. A good examples proving it is the growth of our platform, Synapse, which continues to evolve and grow in 2022, with over XX experts now part of this network, YY initiatives mapped and ZZ resources. The growth resonated deeply with the IMI EU-PEARL consortium which worked on reimagining clinical trials through a personalized version of Synapse, much like a tree branching out in new directions.

In various instances, including those mentioned above and more, The Synergist has embraced a strategic approach to serve as the foundation of our collective initiatives, utilizing collaborative leadership to nourish and bring change to fruition. This form of leadership is dedicated to community and systemic betterment, a method that not only propels our partners to individual and organizational success but also grants them visibility and acknowledgment for their achievements.

Today, our focus is on addressing healthcare systems, yet our commitment extends beyond, encompassing any societal concern in the future. We are focused on demonstrating that our notion of collaboration leads to collective outcomes. As we persist in constructing alongside our partners, leveraging years of experience and accomplishments, we hold hope that the future belongs to those who have faith in genuine human collaboration, thereby enhancing the quality of our lives and our planet.
